Biografie

• Born on the third of february in Zuidbroek in the province Groningen
• After about two weeks after his birth Ernst is operated on his head
• We move to Oldehove and late on to Kampen, where Ernst did the larger part of the primary school
• In 1966 we move to Faneker, a little town in Friesland, where he finisched the primary school and continued on the highschool..
• Ernst did not know what he should do in the future. Fortunately he met his teacher in art in school, who inspired him to continue in art and discovered his artistic skills.
• Ernst Schaap goes on the art academy in Groningen.
• In 1978 Ernst Schaap is finishing his artistic education in Groningen. He doesn't want to be teacher, but to be a free artist in true sense.
• He gives offset lessons on a youthhome called Simplon in Groningen. He kept a longstanding conflict with the taxauthority on this adventure.
• After this events he didn' t want stay any longer in Groningen and he is roaming on severall places abroad in Europe and in Holland. The longest times he lives in squattershome in Rotterdam. He kept a relationship with this town, though he didn' t want to live there. He liked severall museums in Rotterdam very much.
• In 1980 takes his refuge in a squatterhome in Amsterdam close to the river Amstel. The rest of his live he lived on two other adresses in this neighbourhood. At first his workshop was at home. Later on he got a seperate workshop at the north of the Y.In the beginning of the eighties he had a
• In the beginning of the eighties Ernst Schaap had a longstanding personal crisis. He survived and he is playing musis on piano and saxophone.
• From 1995 to 2001 he succeeded in realizing severall expositions. Most of them were in gallery Jos Art on the KNSM-island in Amsterdam.
• In cooperation with Jos Art he had an exposition Belgium in Gent.
• 1996: his first exposition was in the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam for which he meade a serie of charcoal drawings.
• About 2002 the illness of Parkinson revealed for Ernst Schaap. He tries as long as possible  to continue with his artistic work. During 2007 it was slowing down. Some about june he made his last work in his workshop.
• Beginning 2007 the decease has an increasing influence on his health. In july 2007 he was hospitlized for Parkinson. After a stay of two weeks in his mothers home he had to return to hospital. There the complaint proved to be a agressive form of cancer. After the discovery he died after a few days on the 26 of august 2007.

Kunstenaar Tapies overleden

In verschillende recensies over de tentoonstelling van Ernst Schaap in het Martena Museum in Franeker werd gewezen op een verwantschap met de Spaanse schilder Tapies, die begin 2012 overleed. In discussies met hem, kwam deze schilder wel aan de orde. Hieronder is de necrologie van NRC-Handelsblad:
